Website Revamp for Connie’s Natural Cleaning

Project Overview

Established in 2007, Connie’s Natural Cleaning (CNC) is a trusted small cleaning service with locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Orange County, California, and Naples, Florida. Despite building a solid customer base, CNC has noticed a decline in calls for estimates, suggesting that potential customers may be deterred by the outdated website. The website lacks responsiveness and usability, which are critical for today's online users. CNC’s website needed a comprehensive update to align with contemporary standards, reflecting the quality and professionalism of their cleaning services.

Site Evaluation

At a Glance

The need for a redesign of this website is evident. The navigation links and buttons are all image-based, which hampers usability, and the text suffers from poor contrast and lack of visual hierarchy. Additionally, the design is confined to the left side of the browser, leaving an expanse of light green on the right, which is visually unbalanced. Lastly, the website is not optimized for mobile devices, making navigation difficult on smaller screens.

Suggestions for Improvement

  • Create a responsive website since 60% of the visitors are visiting from a mobile device

  • Prioritize important details and remove the excessive graphics

  • Updating how the user will contact CNC for cleaning services

The Contact Form

One of Connie's major issues is that she prefers phone calls for contact, but the 'Free Estimate' button and 'Contact' link both lead to a contact form instead. Additionally, the form is difficult to fill out due to inconsistent label placement, switching from top center to the left of the fields.

The solution: eliminate the contact form entirely.

Reflection

This project was initiated with a tight deadline, as the previous web designer was concluding their services and it was my turn to take over. Connie’s website was facing significant challenges; not only was the design outdated, but it also lacked responsiveness for mobile users.

One of the biggest hurdles was creating all the copy and images since Connie did not provide any new content. To address this, I utilized stock images and leveraged ChatGPT for content generation. I successfully restructured the website and developed new content based on the existing information along with AI assistance.

Despite the rapid turnaround required, I am eager to test user interactions with the updated site and explore opportunities for further improvements in the future.
